Detroit Dusk is one of the largest paintings I have completed to date. It spans nearly 1200 square inches, and represents a colorful panoramic skyline of Detroit.
Dusk is my favorite time of day, because the sunset illuminates buildings and reflects light from the glass-covered city. This makes for quite the picturesque scene; certainly worthy of being memorialized in paint.
From a formal elements perspective, I challenged myself to use an analogous color scheme (colors next to each other on the color wheel). The variations of cool tones throughout the composition unifies the feel of shadows as the light fades into the Detroit evening.
